NOTE: To avoid scams, we do not ever rent outside of VRBO. The online calendar is up to date and it does often fill up far in advance. This is accurate; sorry, but we don’t keep a waitlist. The house is professionally cleaned between rentals using CDC-approved products for viruses. In general, we recommend cancellation-for-any-reason or "CFAR” travel insurance for guests with concerns about cancellation.

Come & enjoy our private retreat! This spot is idyllic & incredibly unique. Right at the water's edge at the big bend in Cayuga Lake just north of Ithaca, The Point is located on 1.5 level acres, & features unparalleled views, no cliffs/hillsides, & an incredibly rare 650 feet of Cayuga lake frontage. The 4-season, fully insulated 3 BR/1.5 Bath, 1700 sq ft ranch-style house faces 270 degree lake views, plus a private cove to the north/back of the house that adds to the feeling of being on an island, right in the center of Cayuga Lake! The east shore location means fantastic sunset views, while the location of the south facing point & lake angle means you also get sunrises! The best of both worlds!
Rise early & take in the stillness at sunrise. Enjoy the lake breezes & the sound of the waves against the rocky lakeshore. Quietly observe a great blue heron slowly stalking crawfish along the water's edge, or marvel at an osprey suddenly plunging out of the sky. Hunt for fossils & lucky stones in the lakeshore shale. Spot the enormous carp swimming lazily amongst the water lilies in the shallows of the private cove behind the house. View the drama of a passing afternoon thunderstorm that leaves the air clean & fresh. Explore the area parks, waterfalls, & wineries. Laugh around a table, enjoying a meal with loved ones, or unwind around a bonfire. Relax as the stunning colors of sunset bleed into the deep sapphire of twilight & the stars start to twinkle. Let the sound of the water against the rocks & the conversations of the frogs in the back cove lull you to sleep at night. The perfect mix of nature & convenience, the Point feels far enough from everything to be relaxing, & is still an easy 10-15 minute drive to Ithaca College, Cornell University, & downtown Ithaca. An ideal location for a relaxing get-away, or for college visits. This private & unique lakefront property is close to a wide range of area attractions & a perfect spot for visitors with any interests. You really won’t find anyplace else like it!
Pass through a neighboring marina to reach our private oasis at the tip of the point. A flat gravel drive leads the parking area and house right at lake level; there are no cliffside staircases in order to be near the water. The front door opens into an open floor plan kitchen/dining area. A kitchen island provides a spot to sit & chat while preparing a meal, with panoramic views from the kitchen windows. The living room area includes a comfortable leather couch and TV, with a wall of living room windows that face southwest look past a mature, shade-providing evergreen tree to views over the lake all the way south to the town of Ithaca, with Cornell University and Ithaca College seen on opposite hilltops above the town.
There are 3 bedrooms (BR1=1 king , BR2=1 queen+1 twin, BR3=1 queen) & 2 bathrooms: 1 full bath with a shower/tub combo & a heated towel rack, & 1 half-bath. The bathrooms are small & modest, consistent with the era when the house was built, but clean & functional. All three BRs have windows that overlook the private cove to the north of the house, great for wildlife viewing throughout the year. The decor style is comfort-oriented & eclectic contemporary, celebrating the viticultural, agricultural, & geologic influences of the area, with regional art adorning the walls. During the summer months, window air conditioning units are provided in each bedroom, & fans are provided throughout the rest of the house to move cool lake breezes through the many windows.

Boating:
The property has 2 docks. At the very tip of the point, heavier & multi-directional wave action around the front dock on Cayuga Lake prevents mooring here, but this dock provides water access, a place to fish, & relaxation with fantastic lake views. The back dock provides access to the calm cove behind the house that connects to a marina, & receives almost no wave action. Jet skis & small boats with shallow drafts may be moored here, but to access this area, they must be navigated through a narrow & shallow opening under a short bridge, which also limits the freeboard height of boats that may pass through. Please contact us before booking to determine if this is viable for your boat. Alternatively, the Point is within a very short walk of 2 marinas where trailered boats may be launched & temporary slip rental may be available. The marinas are close enough to be convenient, but don't intrude on the property privacy.
We are in a unique & prime location to walk to the free Myers Park Thursday outdoor concert series on summer evenings, or to visit the Lansing osprey nests at Salt Point in person!
Originally purchased by the family in the 1930s as a waterfowl-hunting property, this property attracts plenty of local wildlife. In the recent past we have seen a huge variety of waterfowl, as well as kingfishers, flickers, orioles, various woodpeckers, songbirds, osprey, bald eagles, hawks, owls, turkeys, blue & green herons, turtles, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, voles, beavers, muskrats, a fisher, a family of minks, raccoons, opossums, woodchucks, foxes, & deer visiting at various times.
Come and make some incomparable memories at this one-of-a-kind spot! We hope that you enjoy The Point!
